Partner

Martin has been actively developing and executing infrastructure projects for nearly 30 years and leads our strategic project development.

A passionate entrepreneur, he founded Evolve in 2017 to offer real-world solutions to complex problems in the infrastructure space. He is a confident leader who builds strong relationships, fosters transparency and collaboration, stays calm under pressure and works tirelessly to deliver pragmatic results for his clients. In the past three decades, he has delivered or advised on projects totaling more than $15 billion.

Martin began his career in infrastructure banking and project finance, working first for a London-based lender, then joining Balfour Beatty Capital, where he developed financing solutions for the company’s equity investments for individual projects while also managing the debt-raising process. In 2006, Martin moved to Canada as the domestic infrastructure market grew quickly, and he joined the start-up P3 developer Plenary Group to head up their new office in Toronto. With Plenary, he worked on over 40 projects as bid lead and financial advisor and served on the board of 5 project vehicles, including the St. Catharines Hospital, Waterloo Light Rail and St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton.

As the face of the infrastructure market changes, Martin is interested in identifying new opportunities that arise with new technologies and sectors, developing bespoke project solutions and creating new infrastructure models.

Personal info / Interests / Skills

Brought up in Wales, Martin started his career in London, England, having graduated with a degree in Banking and Financing from Loughborough University. In his teens, he was a keen sailor and as UK Youth Champion sailed his Laser dinghy in the World Youth Championships in Montreal in 1989. Martin moved to Canada in 2006 with his wife and son, who was a toddler at the time and cried the whole way on the flight over—now his two sons are almost grown up! He is a gluten-free enthusiast and dedicated cyclist who typically clocks over 1,000 kilometres a month on his bike, both indoors (Canada is cold and icy in the winter!) and outdoors. You can check out his stats on Strava.

Voted “Best / Most likely to” for the Office

  • Most Likely to Write on the Whiteboard
  • Most Likely to Organize a Team Fitness Competition (and be the most competitive participant even if he doesn’t win)
I want to use my ideas and experience to help develop new infrastructure categories as the sector continues to Evolve. We need to find solutions to national problems that people haven’t yet solved.
